From Memory

“From memory” consist of Video, Watercolor Paintings, and Texted based work on paper, where I re-tell stories of my childhood, growing up in Detroit, and my relationship with my father. On the night of October 12, 2002, my father turned himself in for the murder of his then-girlfriend of 4 years. On October 12, 2002, I learned that my super Hero wasn’t.

With “From Memory” I re-enact my last car ride with my father in the 21 min, a two-channel video titled (8059 Farnsworth (You Got Me), where Channel 1 is from the perception of my father as the driver, and Channel 2 being the perception of a young 11-year-old self in the back seat. Think of the car and how it was a space to bonding for us, one of the sources for my current taste in music, as we would consistently listen to artist Stevie Wonder, Erykah Badu, The Roots, Chubrock, and Marvin Gaye.

“I, Remember...” consist of pairing small watercolor paintings, and texted based words on paper, pair each pairing tell stories of Vague memories with my father, i.e his birthday, his theories around baldness, out fav food.etc.

Collectively it will all be present in a Zine titled “From Memory” late 2020, early 2021
